The Unspeakable Word

"Soak your mind in this most beautiful dye of the Holy Name "   Maharaji

All the scriptures attest the primacy of the original and continuing creative power , source of all life , the foundation of the heavens and the earth . Although each religion assigns a different name to this source - Allah , God , Brahman , Yehovah , The Tao , and so on - they all draw a distinction between their own names of God , and this Word or Name - Pak Nam , Sat Nam , Shabd Brahmn , Nad Brahman , Udgit , Kalma , Sraosha , Spirit , Breath - by which "He" has created or spoken into being the entire universe , from his own infinite potentiality .

Inner concentration or meditation on , or attention to , this Source within us as our soul , or life force , is communion or absorption in , or atonement ( at - one - ment ) with the Holy thing .

The holy thing is within us - most certainly it is everything - but how convenient that the most pure and perfect thing - the most Holy thing that sustains the entire universe and sustains us and everything in our world - dwells within ourselves - waiting to be discovered over and over again waiting to be enjoyed and cherished - over and over again .

It is the "Name" or "Word" that m ust be known , beyond all the human appellations in all our different languages , for it existed in the beginning was and is the source of all things that exist , including all the languages we use to name it . The creative power is called "the Name" in order to name it , "the Word" in order to refer to it , but it is a force within , which can be perceived.

So this Word is the Source of our lives and sustains not only our bodies , but the endless endlessness of all creation .

" Man shall not live by bread alone
But by every word that proceeds
   From the mouth of God " - Jesus - Matthew 4 : 4 (Christian)

" In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God
The same was in the beginning with God
In Him was life , and the life was the light of man
And the light shineth in the darkness , and the darkness comprehended it not " - Jesus - John 1:1-5 (Christian)

" In the beginning was Prajapati ( the Creator )
With Him was the Vak ( Word )
And the Vak was verily the Supreme Brahman "
       - Vedas ( Hindu Tradition )

These quotes are so similar as to be interchangeable . We can see that the essence of the scriptures is the experience of the primal power and whoever is writing or speaking is trying to point our attention and our hope towards this experience .

" Through the sound of the Word the way is found " - Yoga Sutras of Pantajali ( Hindu )

" Those in whom the eternal Words speaks are delivered from uncertainty
From one Word proceed all things and all things tell of Him "
      - Thomas a Kempis ( Christian )

" Truly truly I say to you , if anyone keeps my Word , he will never see death " - Jesus - John 8 : 51 ( Christian )

Once again , from multitudes of scriptural references to the Word , here are samples from a wide cross-section to show how this universal doctrine stems from a perceivable inner reality

   He pours life into us
He breathed the breath of life into our nostrils
He hears the cry of those in distress and is compassionate to those who appeal to Him
God acknowledges and rewards him who serves Him and protects him who remembers His Name " - Egyptian Book of the Dead

" When God pronounced His Name , with the Word sprang the Light and Life ; for previously there was no life except God Himself
Thus He made in form and sign the Name of God , after the semblance of rays of light ; and perceived that they were the figure and form and    sign of Life ; and one also with them was life , and in Life was God , that is to say , God is one with Life , and there is no Life but God , and there    is no God but Life " - The Barrdas ( Druid Scriptures )

" That Word is the everlasting Brahman
That Word is the highest end
When that sacred Word is known all longings are fulfilled
This whole moving world , whatever is contained within it , is stirred by the Breath of Life and is derived from it
The thunderbolt and the firefly exist by its power
Whosoever shall know this Holy Breath becomes immortal " - Katha Upanishad ( Hindu )

So bright and clear becomes the mind of the wise through the pure Word of Truth " - Dhammapada ( Buddhist )

" There are myriads of names in the world but none of them can grant salvation
The Primal Name is a hidden one and a rare soul can know and realize it " - Kabir ( Moslem / Hindu Tradition )

" The grass withereth and the flower fadeth , but the Word of God shall stand forever " - Hebrews 1 : 1-3

" Our Father Who art in Heaven , hallowed be Thy Name " - Luke : 11 : 11 (Christian)

" And these words , created for a time , the outward ear reported to the intelligent soul ,  whose inward ear lay listening to Thy Eternal Word
But when she compared these words sounding in time , with that of Thy Eternal Word in silence , and said
It is different , far different , these words are far beneath me , nor are they , because they flee and pass away ; but the Word of my
abideth above me forever " - St. Augustine ( Christian )

" If the eternal Word speaks to a man he is delivered from many conjectures
That one Word is the source of all things , and all things speak of that Word
That Word is the beginning , and that Word speaks to us
All understanding and all right judgement are derived from it
When a man sees all things as that one Word , views all things in that one Word , then he can be inwardly stable and rest in the peace of God "                   Thomas a Kempis - ( Christian )

" And thine ears shall hear a Word behind thee , saying this is the Way , walk ye in it , when ye turn to the right hand    and when ye turn to the left " - Isaiah : 30 : 21 - ( Judaic )

As Your Word unfolds , it gives Light , and the simple understand
I open my mouth , panting eagerly for your commandments

" O thou repeater of the Name , go and search out the Named
Without the Named , how can a mere name give thee comfort ? " Maulana Rumi ( Sufi )

In other words : We can see that when the masters have spoken of God , or the supreme reality , regardless of which epoch or spiritual tradition they were living within , their praises and knowledge of the Holy Spirit , the Truth , the Light , the Name or the Word , sprang from a common experience of the sublime life essence within them , the knowledge and realization of which , is the key to life , the purpose of conscious living , and the continuing fulfillment of this existence

Isn't that great ?

the fine print  ........... of course this is all true but it won't do you any good unless you practice
